What is interactive design?
February 6th, 2008
We call ourselves interactive designers. What exactly do we mean by that and why should you care?
In broad terms, it means we are concerned with what happens when people click, consume, look, listen, read, react, think and watch. Interactive design is the space where design and technology meet. The field of design is about solving problems and to solve problems you need to be able to ask the right questions. Working in interactive media means we get to ask lots of questions - that’s what makes it such fun. And when we run out of questions, we can create personas of your users to ask even more!
We design the environment so the experience for the end-user is fruitful — we want them to find what they want and do what they need to do without having to think too much. We believe that the way to do this lies in the combination of clear visual and conceptual design thinking. We don’t believe one can exist without the other. The end product of interactive design is the interface, but we are not graphic designers. Graphic design is naturally a part of the process( as we are image-based), but we also consider time-based design, design for activity and technology. Interactive design is all about facilitating people to do stuff.
